Re: Hidalgo's Engine Rebuild
I'm back from the Washington trip. I DID install this engine just three weeks before heading out due to a misdiagnosed electrical issue. (I didn't have to install the engine but did.) The engine did great except for a coolant leak and a major carburetor issue.

Re: Hidalgo's Engine Rebuild
Yep. Almost Ready 4-small.jpeg I finished it in late November. There were no major surprises except for worn intake valves. Uh-oh intake valve.jpg The current engine has been behaving itself so I'll keep it in there for now. PS: I hope that I am making the right decision to keep the current motor in...

Hidalgo's Engine Rebuild
This is the first post of this thread where I will be chronicling the rebuilding of Hidalgo's original engine. A quick history: Starting in late 2008 I began a complete restoration of the motorcycle that would eventually become known as Hidalgo. At that time she had 108,000 miles on her and I had fl...

Re: Bogging and spluttering when throttle opened more than 50%
Welcome Llewelyn05. With the sputtering coming on at 1/2 throttle or higher you need to look into the main jet circuit instead of the pilot jets. Make sure that all parts of the airbox are intact and properly sealing. The airbox lets in a limited amount of air with the carbs calibrated to that airfl...

Re: How many miles do you put on your 500?
We definately live in different worlds regarding driving. In addition to my riding I drive a service truck 25-30k miles per year. In the last 10 years I have driven over 275k miles between two trucks for the company I work for.
Riding is done as therapy.

Re: Strange Vibrations
Update on JT Sprockets X1R HD X-ring chain: This chain is JUNK! I was only able to get about 7,000 miles from each of them. I ran the first on 'not new' sprockets and it began wearing unevenly. So I installed a new chain AND sprockets and got the same. I now run a Regina XRP Z-ring chain and am gett...

Re: Hopefully the photo shows up
Yes, a filter of some sort will allow the system to still work. I went as far as to disable the system by removing the hoses and plugging the transfer passages inside the valve cover. I then covered the hose connectors on the valve cover with a rubber cap.

Re: 2021 Ironbutt Rally
I’ve been working on a solution that will help reduce what I take into a hotel/motel at night. During the Heart of Texas Rally in October on the first and second nights I took my duffel bag and tank bag into the room. Unstrapping/restrapping the duffel bag takes a bit of work due to the two straps a...
